Therapy Modalities
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy in Boulder, CO
IFS is a gentle, evidence-based approach that helps you understand the different “parts” of you — the inner critic, the people-pleaser, the protector, the wounded younger self — and lead them from a place of calm, compassionate Self.
What Is IFS?
Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS sees the mind as naturally made up of parts. There are no “bad” parts — every part is trying to help. Some carry pain (exiles), some try to manage life so we never feel that pain (managers), and some jump in when we get overwhelmed (firefighters). At the core is your Self — wise, calm, curious, and compassionate. IFS helps you lead from Self.
What IFS Can Help With
- Complex trauma and childhood wounds
- Anxiety and the inner critic
- Depression and shame
- Perfectionism, people-pleasing, and burnout
- Relationship patterns and attachment
- Eating, body, and self-image struggles
- Self-compassion and identity work
What an IFS Session Feels Like
Sessions are conversational, slow, and curious. We get to know your parts, understand what they are protecting, and help them trust your Self to lead. It is not about getting rid of parts of yourself — it is about helping every part of you feel safer.
